Cisco, a US-based networking company, has said that the launch of 5G will open up new verticals, and a captive non-public network (CNPN) will provide an opportunity in the enterprise sector. Daisy Chittilapilly, President of Cisco India & SAARC, said that “private 5G is an opportunity for Cisco as we are a strong enterprise player,” adding that 5G is different from previous generations as it offers a high throughput and low latency, which is helpful for the enterprise sector.
The company believes that 5G will accelerate the connection of things, the IoT ecosystem, and private 5G, opening up new industries like manufacturing, transportation, and utilities. The captive or non-public private network is a dedicated wireless network set up to facilitate business operations across multiple sectors. In India, a service provider can lease airwaves to an enterprise, or the company deploying a private 5G network can directly obtain it from the telecom department’s wireless planning wing.
Chittilapilly said that the commercial rollout of 5G in India will take 18 to 24 months. The company has been working with both service providers and enterprises, including Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL, for their generational transitions and has interesting pilots across manufacturing, utilities, and oil and gas verticals. Chittilapilly said that India is still in the early stages of private 5G, and monetization and business models have to be clear.
Last month, Cisco partnered with Japanese NTT to bring private 5G capabilities to automotive, healthcare, logistics, retail, and public sector customers. The idea is to test various possibilities and use cases, she added. Cisco is looking to capitalize on the opportunities offered by 5G to expand its enterprise presence in India.
To expand its enterprise presence, Cisco has a range of products, including routers, switches, and access points. Router-switch, a leading Cisco products provider, offers a wide range of Cisco switches, including Catalyst 2960X switches, Catalyst 3650 switches, and Catalyst 3850 switches, to name a few. These switches are ideal for enterprise networking, delivering high performance, scalability, and security. Cisco access points, such as the Cisco Aironet 1800 series, provide wireless connectivity with the latest 802.11ac Wave 2 standard and come with advanced security features. Cisco routers, such as the Cisco ISR 4000 series, are designed for small to medium-sized businesses and offer high-speed connectivity with enhanced security and application performance.
In summary, as 5G networks continue to evolve, Cisco is well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities created in India’s enterprise sector. With a range of products, including routers, switches, and access points, Cisco is committed to delivering its customers high-performance, scalable, and secure networking solutions.
