Design

The appearance of both routers is very simple. USG-PRO-4 is a flat rectangle and needs a certain space to be placed. It can be mounted on any flat surface, although it will also have a separate stand. The appearance of the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 is the same as that of the USG-PRO-4, which is also a rectangle. But it’s a bit bigger than the USG-PRO-4, which also means it takes up more space. If you don’t want to mount it on any surface, you can purchase a separate stand.

Performance

The high-speed, wide-range transmission speed is the advantage of the router. USG-PRO-4 offers top speeds of up to 4000Mbps, allowing you to handle multiple high-speed applications simultaneously. This speed is also combined with a 64-bit packet size that delivers 2,400,000 pps. It can cover up to 4,500 square feet and is ideal for office environments.

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 is not much different from USG-PRO-4, and it can also provide speeds of up to 4000Mbps, supporting various high-speed and intensity activities. However, for 64-bit packets, you will receive up to 3,400,000 pps. It can also cover 4,500 square feet of space.

In terms of performance, they are very similar. But Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 provides more ppm.

Port

Routers are essentially responsible for facilitating as many wireless connections as possible, but sometimes wired connections are also required. This is where the port is needed. The USG-PRO-4 is equipped with multiple Gigabit connection ports, providing 2 WAN ports, 2 LAN ports, and a dedicated serial Rj45 port for game consoles. Each of these ports is capable of delivering speeds of up to 4Gbps.

The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 has 3 Gigabit Rj45 ports for routing, each providing 4Gbps line rate. There’s also a Gigabit SFP port, perfect for connecting devices like gaming consoles. In addition to this, there is a WAN port for receiving signals from the modem.

In terms of ports, the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 has more Gigabit LAN ports than the USG-PRO-4.

USG-PRO-4 vs. Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4

USG-PRO-4

The design is simple and unremarkable, and it does a decent job with high-speed transfers, too. For 4Gbps transfer speed, it relies heavily on a 1GHz dual-core processor. It works with 4GB RAM and 4GB flash storage. With these features, promoting high-intensity activities becomes very easy.

Pros:

Powerful processor

Wide transmission range

Transmits at high speeds

Comes with a downloadable mobile app

Powerful firewall

Cons:

Monotonous design

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4

It is a very large router. Inside it is a 1GHz quad-core processor working with 1GB of RAM. It also offers 4GB of internal flash memory for optimal operation.

Pros:

Wide transmission range

Amazing speed transfer

Comes with a powerful firewall

Comes with a downloadable mobile app

Cons:

Has a disinteresting design

Conclusion

USG-PRO-4 is a better router. It offers plenty of ports, and it’s more compact with a relatively small footprint. And it has more RAM which contributes to smoother operation and running.
